Faro is a city with many historical interests. The earliest references that can be found date back to the Stone age (4 th and 5 th centuries). During the Roman occupancy, Faro was then known as "Ossónoba".

It was an important step for commercial and piscatorial development, and by the 1 st century it already had its own currency, showing its prosperity which progressed during the Roman occupancy.

Today, it is the capital of the Algarve , and due to its importance it has a university, an international airport, a theatre, a regional conservatory. It also has a well known international soccer stadium which hosted two matches during the Euro 2004, and where various events take place during the year, namely the Seafood Festival, Fashion Algarve , and an international concert known as the Algarve Summer Festival.
